Family Practice Physician & Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine

Zach Egger, D.O.

Phelps Medical Group is proud to announce that Zach Egger, Family Practice Physician and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, has joined our team. A member of the American Board of Family Medicine, his experience is well-versed in the areas of obstetrics, osteopathic manipulative treatments, family practice, pediatric and adult wellness, and men’s and women’s health.

“I believe patient care should be proactive and not reactive,” stated Egger. He added, “focusing on prevention is the most important part of medicine and a healthy community.”

Dr. Egger grew up in the rural community of Wood River in Nebraska. With a passion for science, he knew from a young age that he wanted to be a medical professional. He prides himself in his ability to form relationships with people.

“I love science; and, I love talking to people and making a personal connection,” he stated, “when I was a kid, I fell and broke my arm. The doctors involved in my care did such an amazing job taking care of me. From that moment, I knew I wanted to be in the medical field and help people some day.”

As a field goal kicker, pole vaulter and hurdler, Dr. Egger was a multi-sport athlete with a lot of lower back pain. Routine adjustments helped immensely throughout my high school and college careers. Ultimately, this led to his decision to pursue a career in osteopathic medicine which connects hands-on therapeutic techniques, similar to those of chiropractors and physical therapists, with the science of medicine.

Throughout his studies, he received his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University in exercise science, master’s degree in bioethics and doctorate degree in osteopathic medicine from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He was named a Football Academic All-American and received the Great Plains Athletic Conference awards for excellence in academia and football.

He and his wife, Dr. Katie Thelen, moved to Holdrege and are expecting their first child this winter. His experience working with the teams at Phelps Medical Group and Phelps Memorial Health Center have been excellent, “the efficiency amongst the team is far above anything I’ve ever experienced,” he stated, “I get to work with amazing nurses and ancillary professionals that are experienced and treat every patient as a member of their family. I am excited to be a member of a high quality team.”

Dr. Egger will be practicing at Phelps Medical Group. To schedule an appointment, contact the team at 308.995.6111.
