Russell Carlston, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, Joins Phelps Medical Group

Dr. Carlston welcomes life in rural Nebraska

Dr. Russell Carlston, PodiatistRussell Carlston, DPM, is looking forward to life in rural Nebraska. He and his wife, Kristin, have lived in a multitude of larger cities, including Miami and Houston. Experiencing small town living when visiting family, they knew they would like to find their forever home in a rural community. His passions outside of practicing medicine include playing basketball, ultimate frisbee, golf and hiking.

“The Holdrege culture is extremely welcoming and friendly. We’re getting used to people holding the door for us and the index finger wave from drivers in passing vehicles,” he jokingly stated, “it has always been appealing to live in a small community where everyone is so patient and calm. The fact that I now live two minutes from work with no traffic is an added bonus.”

When asked what sets him apart, “standing at 6’ 8”, I am the shortest of my brothers but, still taller than my sisters. That really makes me stand out in a crowd,” he stated, “all joking aside, I want my patients to be comfortable with me by knowing they are receiving the best care possible from our team. Patient care is my number one priority. I take a conservative approach that is always individualized and educational for every patient. Providing sufficient time for them to ask questions and for me to provide education on their condition is essential in my care delivery.”

Dr. Carlston joined the Phelps Medical Group team in August. His experience encompasses any condition affecting the ankle and foot including, trauma, fractures, diabetic wound care, Achilles tendon, routine foot care and elective surgeries, such as bunions and hammertoes.

“The function of the ankle and foot plays a major role in comfortable daily activities. You don’t realize how bad you need your foot until the pain is so bad that you cannot function,” stated Carlston, “I absolutely love what I do. The team at Phelps Medical Group is phenomenal when it comes to providing a high quality experience for our patients. When a patient leaves my care with significantly less pain than when they came in, that is always a great day.”
