Primary Care Providers

Nicole Buettner, PA-C and Michelle Hunter, APRNPhelps Medical Group proudly serves Phelps County and surrounding areas. Our team of highly qualified healthcare professionals strives to provide quality care to our patients and guests when it comes to primary care.

Why choose primary care?

Primary care providers primarily treat patients with common, non-emergent medical problems. Most of our patients have been with us throughout the years. We know their history and have the knowledge of past medical problems and can plan future care as appropriate. We pride ourselves in knowing our patients on a personal level and look forward to seeing them!

If a specialist is needed, the network of providers available allow us to recommend the best choice for your care possible.

Our family practitioner, physician assistant and nurse practitioner can:

  • provide preventive care and teach healthy lifestyle choices
  • identify and treat common, non-emergent medical conditions
  • assess the urgency of medical problems and direct patients to the appropriate place for care
  • make referrals to medical specialists when necessary

Pediatric (birth to age 18) Medicine

Our primary care services cover a wide spectrum of pediatric healthcare. In addition to routine well-child checks, our team of providers is equipped to examine and diagnose children of all ages. Our network of specialists is at an arm's reach when needed. Based on CDC guidelines, our providers recommend routine checkups and immunizations for infants and older children.

Adult (ages 18+) Medicine

It is our mission to help you live a healthier and happier life by utilizing preventive medicine. Adults, ages 18 and over, are recommended to receive an annual wellness exam. We will discuss how to improve your health and prevent disease and illness. During the wellness check, we may recommend certain tests or immunizations depending on your overall health, personal risk factors, age and gender. Certain risk factors, such as chronic disease, obesity or family history may create the need for additional screenings.

Recommended immunizations include an annual flu vaccine and a tetanus-diphtheria vaccine every 10 years.

Geriatric and Elderly Care

As you get older, routine exams are important. During your visit, we may check your blood pressure and cholesterol. Common cancer screenings are colon, prostate, breast and cervical. We will review your family health history, age and gender in order to identify any additional screening necessary.

Commons health concerns include Alzheimer's disease, advance directives and end-of-life decisions, chronic pain, depression, heart disease, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, prostate health, sexual vitality, shingles, sleep issues and urination issues. Physical fitness and activity as well as healthy eating lifestyles are also important. Limiting alcohol intake, quitting the use of tobacco, and reducing your stress and weight levels will help you live a longer, healthier life with your family.

Living a safe lifestyle is also important as we get older. We recommend taking a few minutes to ensure your home is safe. This will aid in the prevention of falls in the home. It is also vital to your help to manage your current medications. Please remember to always bring your medications along on any appointment, whether it be at High Plains Medicine or any other provider.

Recommended vaccinations include a flu vaccine every year, tetanus-diphtheria every 10 years, pneumococcal vaccine once after the age of 65, and the shingle vaccine once after the age of 60 (unless you are immune suppressed).
